Contact cases, environment
It is important to systematically treat intrafamily contact cases simultaneously to avoid relapses and to take care of the environment.
Decontamination of linen and bedding
Decontamination of linen and bedding must be done:
- the day after taking Ivermectin
- or the same day of application of the anti-scabious topical (it will again be necessary to take a clean bath towel, clean clothes and change the bed sheets again after rinsing the anti-scabious topical)
To decontaminate linen and bedding, there are several possibilities:
- Machine wash laundry at 60°C when possible.
- Disinfection with an acaricide (storage in a plastic bag with an acaricide product purchased in a pharmacy for at least three hours)
- Quarantine for three days (classic scabies) to eight days (profuse scabies) in a plastic bag which will be kept at room temperature below 20°C.
- Otherwise put fragile clothes, especially comforters, in a bag for 48 hours in the freezer.
- Vacuum carpets and cushions vigorously.
Don't forget to treat the mattress, furniture, stroller and car seats, ideally with an acaricide spray.
However, there should not be any anxiety linked to this environmental treatment and this should not lead to destroying or getting rid of the furniture.
Vulnerability criteria
It is important to carry out a remote assessment of the patient and those around them in the event of vulnerability criteria (precarious family, language difficulty, compliance difficulties, etc.).
