Scabies is a contagious disease
In most cases, transmission is direct, between humans, through close skin contact. Transmission requires direct, prolonged, or repeated contacts, as encountered within a couple or a family.
It is also an STI
Due to possible contamination during sexual intercourse, scabies is also considered a sexually transmitted infection (STI).
Indirect transmission is possible
Indirect transmission through clothing or bedding is possible but much rarer, except in hyperkeratotic forms.
