The prevalence of CSU is not precisely known.
CSU is estimated to affect about 1 in 10 people over the course of their lives, more frequently women (sex ratio of women to men estimated at 2:1), and the majority of patients who visit a specialised centre are under 40 years of age [Asero, 2011].
The incidence of CSU has been little studied, but is estimated to be about 1.9% person-years [Zuberbier, 2010]. It appears to be rarer in children, but epidemiological data are sparse [Lee, 2017].
